We’ve been working on the ‘stop’ command this week. It’s good to know in case he gets out in front of me on walks and I need him to stop immediately. He’s getting a little better at not sneaking forward when I say it but sometimes after we’ve worked on it, he’ll hesitate anyway when we say ‘come’ or ‘OK’. We’ll have to throw in plain ‘come’ in once and a while to shake things up.

PS - Do YOU know what bully sticks are made of? Look it up and you’ll probably be surprised ;)

He’s seriously adorable! How did you start off introducing the stop command?

I actually don’t remember exactly (helpful, I know)! I think it had something to do with when we were walking and he was pulling forward, he would get to the end of the lead and I would say ‘stop’. Because he had no where else to go, he was pretty much forced to stop in place.

Gradually I got to the point where if we were walking and he looked about to pull out front, I would tell him to ‘stop’ in a quick, urgent voice and he would plop down immediately. It helped for when we were about to cross streets or turn a blind corner.

Once he was able to do it on a semi-loose leash, we started working with him off leash in the house like here. I also would try it in an empty parking lot area of our apartment complex but we haven’t perfected it without distractions yet.
